Homes in Lancaster PA -- Lancaster County Real Estate - The Joys of First Time Home Ownership

I had such a great day today in Lancaster.  Long, lots of twist and turns, but overall a great day.  The joy of helping not only a first time buyer, but a good friend, with the task of having an offer accepted on the home that is absolutely perfect for him in Lancaster, indeed makes for a great day in my book.  First Time Buyer, Lancaster Real Estate

After several years of contemplating a purchase, and several home listings and emails sent, we finally located the absolutely most perfect Lancaster County "home".  I should say that 'he' located it, and called me, almost elated, after he had driven out to scope it out in person. I can already tell that it's not just going to be a "house", but it will be "home" for several years to come as he becomes used to calling Lancaster "home".

This buyer is a person who travels a great deal as a musician, and it must be so disconnecting to go from hotel room to bus to airplane, and to lose the sense of what it means to be home once and for all.  He's got a great apartment in downtown Lancaster City, an apartment that I've always loved and thought would be an awesome place to live.  In a Historic Lancaster area, lots of character, a great view (especially during the Celebrate Lancaster! festivities for the July 4th holiday) held in Lancaster City, but certainly not "home" in his eyes.  He confided recently that he just hasn't been inspired to write new music in this apartment, something I'm sure he's been wrestling with.

This new home in Lancaster will certainly inspire many new feelings that he's not felt before, I'm certain of that.  For one, the pride of home ownership.  Of knowing he can plant a garden if he wants to -- can let the dog run free in the fenced yard, for sure -- or can count how many steps, exactly, it takes to mow "his" lawn.  Certainly these must be feelings that would in some way inspire a great tune.  After all, didn't John Cougar Mellancamp sing about 'Little Pink Houses' for you and me?  (Note to self -- add that tune to the new Nano i-pod!)

I think what helped snag the deal was the fact that he met the home seller just on the off chance of driving by the house.  Certainly not a good idea in every situation, but here it opened the door for them to meet briefly, without Real Estate professionals interfering with our disclosures and commitments, and both let their guards down about what they love about the home and what their dreams and wishes had been.  By the time we looked at the home together the following day, he had already made a friend in the seller and even brought a gift along for the baby! (something I should remember to do!)  By the time we delivered an offer the next day, with some slight adjustments in the initial contract, it was a cemented deal.  I'm sure the sellers feel as good about this as the buyer does, and that makes for a very satisfying day as a Lancaster Real Estate professionalPerhaps even a perfect day.

I have to say that I take pride in all of my dealings with all of my Lancaster PA real estate clients; certainly treating them all fairly and as if each one was indeed an old friend.  But to have a good friend, after so much time feeling as if he isn't quite home and settled, find the absolutely perfect place for himself - that is the most satisfying of all.  I am just as excited about settlement day as he must be.

To my dear friend on the off chance that he might read this some day - I hope you have several inspiring, healthy and happy years ahead in your new home.  And yes, we'll be there for that barbeque - whether you are home or not!
