Buzzing "Home"...

I have posted in the past about the pulse that Lancaster County has on the film industry. I just can't help finding it all so interesting, especially since my son is a recent film school graduate and I have good friends that are deeply rooted in the local film industry.

There is a tiny little film that is creating a "buzz", not just here in Lancaster but through whatever chains of communication these types of things follow.

"Home" -- the movie -- was filmed locally in the summer of 2006 and was a film that my son had an opportunity to do a short internship with before leaving for film school. Starring the award winning actress, Marcia Gay Harden (and her then 8 year old daughter), this film touches on subjects that are as powerful in today's society as they were in the era that the film was based ~ Lancaster County in the 1960's. The story follows Marcia Gay Harden's character, Inga, as she struggles with her demons of alcoholism, her past, and her breast cancer ~ and the negative (and yes, positive) chain of events that unfold. These weren't topics that were discussed back then, not only in Lancaster, but throughout society as a whole. And as we all know, they are demons that still plague society today and are many times far too often ignored or overlooked.

I'm so excited ~ and proud ~ to give you a peek into the trailer of this film, written and directed by Mary Haverstick of Haverstick Films, right here in Lancaster. "Home" had it's world premier at the Toronto Film Festival just a few weeks ago to rave reviews, and murmers of academy award performances. The local premiere takes place on November 2nd at the Fulton Theater, with proceeds of ticket sales being donated to Lancaster General Hospital's Suzanne M. Arnold Center for Breast Care Health. A worthy event, for sure.
