Recently, another 265 acres of beautiful Lancaster County Farmland was preserved by the
Lancaster County Commissioners.
To date, there are over 77,694 acres preserved which includes 683 Farms!
Included in the recently preserved farms are a 52-Acre dairy farm in Drumore Township, a 28-Acre farm in Caernarvon East Earl Township, a 124-Acre dairy farm in Fulton Township, and a 61-Acre farm in Manor Township.
According to the Lancaster County Agricultural Preserve Board, there are more than 200 farms currently on the waiting list to become "preserved" or to transfer their development rights to the Preserve Board.
What does this mean for homebuyers in Lancaster County? It means that if you are purchasing a home which currently has an "idyllic farmland view", you cannot be guaranteed that your beautiful view of those rolling farmland hills will remain as such -- unless that farm has been preserved. Once it has been preserved, the property must stay as farmland. What a wonderful way to control and preserve what Lancaster County has been known for these past few generations - the beautiful, rich farmland.
