I had the most amazing experience during an open house on Sunday afternoon at 51 E Front Street in Lititz.
"What time is dinner"? I asked. The neighbor, who stopped by during our open house to see how things were going, expressed his rush to get home because he had dinner cooking. After telling me about the delicious meal he was preparing, I jokingly asked what time I should stop by.
"Two o'clock" he tells me.
We all know that it's not unusual for neighbors to stop by during an open house. In this case, the sellers have expressed many times how they hate to have to move out of the neighborhood, not only because they love Lititz so much but because they have such great neighbors.
Wouldn't you know it, at about 2:30 - during my open house - the neighbor comes back and surprises me with a big hot plate of his pot roast dinner for my lunch.
Whoa!! What a nice surprise!
And what a delicious meal it was!
He tells me to just leave the plate on their front porch when I'm done, because they were on their way out. Considering I was in a vacant house ~ and the open house was a bit slow ~ I sat down on the only seating area in the house (a leftover sofa in the family room) and enjoyed every last bite of the pot roast meal, complete with potatoes, carrots and celery... mmmm, mmmm, good!
At the end of my open house, I packed up my briefcase, locked up the house, and dropped off the empty plate with a nice thank you note expressing my deep gratitude. It was the perfect meal, and the perfect way to end an open house!
Usually, during an open house we have unexpected surprises ~ most of them not good! But, this was one unexpected surprise that really proved to me why the homeowners are so reluctant to leave.
Has anyone else experienced such a nice surprise during an open house? Or am I the first to have a Sunday pot roast dinner hand-delivered by the neighbors?
